Two men have been charged following a suitcase robbery where a substance thought to be capsaicin spray caused injuries at the major London air hub.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, now face two counts of robbery and two counts of using a harmful chemical, as confirmed by court officials.

The charges follow an probe of an assault at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Earlier that day, two women were robbed of their luggage stolen after exiting a parking garage elevator, authorities reported.

A three-year-old girl was among those injured during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were eventually allowed to go home.

The incident – which authorities stated was isolated and not considered a terror-related act – caused train delays and the temporary blocking of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a brief period.
