NBA game action

Miami recorded 86 first-half scores against the Grizzlies

The Heat claimed a crushing 146-114 victory over the Grizzlies in their initial NBA game after guard Rozier was detained for alleged illegal sports betting.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Billups was additionally arrested as part of a broad federal investigation into illegal gambling. The two individuals deny the allegations.

However, the Miami team were focused as they scored eighty-six opening half points to lead the Grizzlies by 39 after two quarters, the largest half-time advantage in the franchise's 37 year history.

Adebayo led the way with 24 scores and afterwards said Terry had the support of the team.

"We stand behind him. Full support," Adebayo stated. "You support him through and through. He's like family at the end of the day."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra commented: "Terry is somebody who is very dear to everyone. He's had a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he goes through this."

Portland additionally secured their initial match since the detentions, with Brazilian Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Chauncey's absence and guiding the team to a convincing 139 to 119 victory over the Warriors.

"We all had positive times with Billups and how he coached," Tiago remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' over Arrests

Speaking about the detentions for the first time, NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the events of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he told Amazon Prime. "And so I had a pit in my stomach. It was disturbing."

Silver further said an NBA investigation into the player's actions in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he played for the Charlotte Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were very transparent about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the league office can't do.

"Therefore, we've been working with them since then. Naturally, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"And 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise in this case between protecting people's rights and investigating."
