'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teens Desperately Seek Information After Ski Resort Fire

The families of teens unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are confronting an excruciating wait for official news and pleading for clues about their family members publicly.

The inferno ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Verified images show the roof structure catching alight as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Emergency services have warned that it could take considerable time to identify the fatalities of the fire, which claimed the lives of 40 people and injured another scores more. A spokesperson said on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with work ongoing to name the remaining few.

In the meantime, relatives have been taking to the internet to plead for any news about their loved ones who were in attendance that evening.

Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For

The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his mother.

The who lives of Lutry near the city, told a publication that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but could not find him.

"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she said.

She added that some of his companions had been discovered with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured an absolute nightmare."

The Italy's government has indicated that six of its nationals have not been located.

Junior golfer Emanuele Galeppini, 16, was last heard from around midnight on New Year's Eve, his father said.

One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, originally from Italy but now residing in the UAE.

The national sporting body has said that he is deceased, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "talented young man who represented passion and authentic values."

His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has indicated that a official announcement of his death is awaited.

Further Missing Individuals

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the venue.

"A companion told me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.

One of his educators said, "I remember his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great responsibility. Every time offer to help out."

Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.

Her brother has published an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.

Officials from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
